Places to walk in Portland when you need to take your mind off of waiting for your baby.

strolling with a bump at Mt. Tabor Park.

Walking is always a good idea in pregnancy (unless you’re told not to by your medical professional) but especially as you get into your due window. Getting walking is a great way to keep your mind off your due date. Who knows, maybe it will even help get things going..if your body is ready for that. Here are a few of my favorite places to go walking in Portland while you’re waiting to meet your baby.

  1. Laurelhurst park - Laurelhurst is a pretty mild walk, just a little hill to climb, completely paved. And has some of the most lovely collection of old trees in Portland

  2. Tryon Creek State National Area. Tryon Creek is a little slice of wilderness in SW Portland (north of Lake Oswego). About 10 minutes from downtown. Gently hilly, dirt and gravel paths. You’ll feel like you completely escaped the city, even though you’ve not driven very far.

  3. Mount Tabor Park - Mount Tabor in SE offers a variety of walks, many of which are climbs, but some of the dirt trails make you forget for a moment you’re in the middle of the city still. Mount Tabor is an ancient volcano, from the top of which you can get a beautiful look out over the city. If you’re feeling more like a flat walk looping around the lower reservoir is a great choice.

  4. Powell Butte Nature Park - also the site of a former volcano. Another place to get away with beautiful forested areas and also open areas and views of the city.

  5. Downtown Waterfront - You can make it a loop of any size by crossing the bridges (all of which are accessible to pedestrians (though some are more friendly than others). My favorite bridges to cross are the Tilikum Bridge, Hawthorne Bridge and the Steel bridge.

  6. Sellwood Riverfront Park - There are trails in the grassy open areas of the park as well as access to walk the sandy banks of the Willamette, with lovely views of the city.

  7. Hip Urban street walks - Hawthorne, Alberta, Division, Mississippi, SE 13th in Sellwood, NW 23rd & Glisan northbound - check out the shops & get a snack.

  8. Pier Park in St. John’s. Again a great trip for an urban forest adventure. Has a lovely loop 1.9 mile loop around the park. Also one of the best disc golf courses if you vibe with that.

  9. Forest park - so many trails! Such an incredible greenspace in the city!

  10. Washington Park - lots of trails around the park. Or a trip to the Japanese Gardens is always inspiring.

Anything others you’d recommend? What were your favorite places to go walking while you were due? What are some other cool Portland walking places?

Obviously also these walks would be good for anytime in pregnancy aand many good with littles too!
